d Studies Program

The Advanced Studies program is designed for students who wish to deepen their practice and understanding of Iyengar Yoga, develop a consistent home practice and learn more of the theory behind the practice. As part of a supportive community of dedicated yogis who are committed to study and practice (Svadhyaya) your personal commitment will help you to deepen both your knowledge and practice. The program includes in-depth classes on practice and theory of the asanas and yoga philosophy.

This program is for current Iyengar yoga students registered in classes at FYC  or taking  classes elsewhere with a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher .

Program begins September 30, 2017 runs to May 2018

1. Six 3.5hr Advanced Studies Classes including asana, pranayama and philosophy.

2. 10 Day Sadhana 6:30 am-7:30 am
April 18-27, 2018
3. Fall Student Intensive – 6:00-8:30pm, Sat 9am-noon
Either: August 29- Sept 2, 2017 or August 28-Sept 1, 2018
4. Establishing a Home Practice workshop 1:30-4:00pm
September 30th, 2017

Designed for students of any yoga tradition wanting to merge the philosophy with the physical

This course is a journey of self-exploration through a conscious merging of the
principals of the yamas & niyamas with your asana and pranayama practices. Guided by Deborah Adele’s book The Yamas and Niyamas, Samantha facilitates how to take the words off the page into your practice and the practice on the mat into everyday life.  This course is a catalyst for taking empowered control over the fluctuations of your life!

Weekend Training Course
In Special Needs and Special Practices

APRIL 6 AND APRIL 7, 2018 – Family Yoga Centre

For Iyengar Yoga teachers, teacher-trainees and experienced IY students with training in therapeutic modalities and physiotherapy:

  • To give teachers a range of tools to assist their students in special practice situations.
  • To qualify teachers to assist in regular classes for special needs students in a wide range of applications.

FRIDAY April 6, 1:00pm – 3:30pm – Special Needs

SATURDAY April 7, 1:00pm-3:30PM  – Special Practices


  • Friday and Saturday: $80.00
  • Friday or Saturday: $40.00
    Registration opens: March 1, 2018

SPECIAL NEEDS:  This refers to a physical or physiological condition, illness or abnormality from which prolonged symptoms – like chronic pain – prevent the student from participating safely in a regular exercise activity or yoga class.

EXAMPLES:  Chronic high blood pressure, cancer treatments, pulmonary disease, multiple sclerosis, severe menopause, chronic lower back pain, at-risk pregnancy.

SPECIAL PRACTICESAs a result of structural injury, misalignment, or longstanding limitation to movement and/or joint instability, a practice set is designed to assist the student recover mobility and stability and be able to return safely to a regular class.

EXAMPLES:  Hip, knee or back injury; post treatment recovery from hip, knee or back surgery; rotator cuff syndrome; recurrent headache; neck pain, pregnancy.

A list of references will be given to participants and recommended resources will be on hand to use during the session.
