Learn the Art, Science and Philosophy of Iyengar Yoga
FYC Advanced Studies Program
The Advanced Studies program is designed for students who wish to deepen their practice and understanding of Iyengar Yoga, develop a consistent home practice and learn more of the theory behind the practice. As part of a supportive community of dedicated yogis who are committed to study and practice (Svadhyaya) your personal commitment will help you to deepen both your knowledge and practice. The program includes in-depth classes on practice and theory of the asanas, as well as basic anatomy and yoga philosophy.
This program is for current Iyengar yoga students registered in classes at FYC or taking classes elsewhere with a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher .
Program begins September 30, 2017 runs to May 2018

APRIL 6 AND APRIL 7, 2018 – Family Yoga Centre
For Iyengar Yoga teachers, teacher-trainees and experienced IY students with training in therapeutic modalities and physiotherapy:
- To give teachers a range of tools to assist their students in special practice situations.
- To qualify teachers to assist in regular classes for special needs students in a wide range of applications.
FRIDAY April 6, 1:00pm – 3:30pm – Special Needs
SATURDAY April 7, 1:00pm-3:30PM – Special Practices
- Friday and Saturday: $80.00
- Friday or Saturday: $40.00

SPECIAL NEEDS: This refers to a physical or physiological condition, illness or abnormality from which prolonged symptoms – like chronic pain – prevent the student from participating safely in a regular exercise activity or yoga class.
EXAMPLES: Chronic high blood pressure, cancer treatments, pulmonary disease, multiple sclerosis, severe menopause, chronic lower back pain, at-risk pregnancy.
SPECIAL PRACTICES: As a result of structural injury, misalignment, or longstanding limitation to movement and/or joint instability, a practice set is designed to assist the student recover mobility and stability and be able to return safely to a regular class.
EXAMPLES: Hip, knee or back injury; post treatment recovery from hip, knee or back surgery; rotator cuff syndrome; recurrent headache; neck pain, pregnancy.
A list of references will be given to participants and recommended resources will be on hand to use during the session.
